Denelle Alton

Community advisory board

Denelle Alton (she/her/hers) remembers the academic struggles she experienced growing up in Baltimore, and is grateful for the change-agents that kept her on the path of success – “It takes a village!” Denelle joined the Community Advisory Board to collaborate with like-minded individuals who are committed to serving the youth and families of Baltimore.

Denelle manages the University of Baltimore’s Second Chance College Program, a prison education program at the Jessup Correctional Institution. In 2023, she was recognized for her Extraordinary Public Service to UBalt and the Greater Community.  Prior to this role, Denelle was an academic advisor at Howard Community College and an admissions and student services officer at Johns Hopkins University.  She has experience in admissions, academic advising, program planning and student retention.  Denelle is a U.S. Army veteran and served during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. She has degrees in Communications Media and School Counseling and is completing a Professional Counseling Certificate.
